In a recent interview (via AS), Mauro Icardi’s agent, Elio Letterio Pino, stated that Real Madrid are in talks to land his client. Pino said,
“There is no official offer yet. I’m in Madrid right now (yesterday). Real Madrid has not made any offer for Icardi. They have not yet made an official offer. But we are talking to those responsible for Real Madrid.
“I will go to Istanbul on Monday to meet with Erden Timur. I will watch the Galatasaray – Manchester United Champions League match on Wednesday. Of course, I will also spend time with Mauro. I can’t say anything more for now.”
Icardi’s Impressive Numbers In The Turkish Super Lig
Icardi is having a decent campaign in Turkey as he has managed to put in a series of productive displays for Galatasaray in the final third. The 30-year-old has banged in 16 goals and grabbed five assists in 21 appearances for his current club this season across all fronts.
The Argentine talent has led the line well by averaging 4.1 shots and 1.5 key passes per game in the Turkish Super Lig. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top based on his pass success rate of 74.6% in the Turkish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Icardi A Decent Option For Real Madrid?
Icardi is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opposition goal. The Argentine striker can even create the odd chance for his teammates but needs to figure out a way to improve his passing accuracy in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
At 30, Icardi has got a wealth of experience at the highest level. We can expect him to add more firepower to Real Madrid‘s attack. He would also serve as a good, short-term option for Los Blancos to consider this January.
Icardi has what it takes to help the Madrid giants compete across all fronts in the coming seasons as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain.
