One does not need to be a football expert to identify that Hull City are in deep trouble right now. They are seeded at the rock-bottom of the table at the moment with just 13 points on the board from 20 games. It is also very much clear that they do not have a capable enough team who could muster a brilliant fightback in the second half of the season to save their Premier League. Marco Silva, the recently-appointed Hull City boss, must know these things when he took charge of the Tigers.
Silva, who is fondly called as ‘Mini-Mourinho’ still took the job and we have to give him plaudits for that. Very few would have shown the character to take charge of a ship that is clearly sinking but he did and we have to see how he saves the Tigers. Clearly needing reinforcements, Hull City have been strongly linked with a move for VfB Stuttgart playmaker Alexandru Maxim as per a recent report from The Yorkshire Post.
Is Maxim the man who can bring the Tigers out of their miseries? Well, he certainly has what it takes to do that but again, his current team Stuttgart were relegated from Bundesliga last season despite having a quality squad. If he was really good enough, he could have probably saved them too. However, football is a team game and we can say that Maxim certainly is a player who will add a lot to the Hull City team.
We have seen Hull City struggling for creativity this campaign and Maxim could change that. The Romanian international is a number ten by trade but also can play on either flank. Hull do not need his versatility at all right now. All they need from him is play just behind the striker and create openings which have hardly happened this campaign.
Maxim’s stock has fallen a lot now considering that he is plying his trade in the second division in Germany but a few years back, he was wanted by a host of Premier League clubs. The 26-year-old has plenty to prove at the top level and Hull City won’t regret giving him that opportunity.
Maxim’s excellent vision and flair can give Hull a whole new dimension in attack but Silva also has to bring a proven centre-forward to convert the chances Maxim will create. Only then can this move prove to be propitious for the Tigers.
