Arsenal Are Keen On Recruiting This Aston Villa Star: Should Arteta Bring Him On Board?

In a recent report, TodoMercadoweb mentioned that Arsenal are keen on recruiting Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. It has been stated that the Gunners are willing to use Emile Smith Rowe as a makeweight to get a deal done for the Brazilian midfielder next year.

Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form At Villa Park This Season

Luiz is enjoying a solid campaign at Aston Villa as he has been responsible for putting in a string of influential performances at the centre of Unai Emery’s midfield. The Brazilian talent has scored six goals and earned a couple of assists in 19 matches for the West Midlands club this season across all competitions

The 25-year-old has been a positive influence at both ends of the field and has done well to average 2.3 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after completing 88.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Gunners will have to launch a convincing offer if they want to recruit the Brazilian sensation this January or at the end of this season.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Luiz On Board?

Luiz is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to clear his lines when needed. He can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. The Brazilian midfield ace has also got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half. He can even make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield.

Luiz has mainly functioned as a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a holding midfielder if told to do so. He has the skill set to become an important player in Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s squad in the coming seasons.

At 25, the Aston Villa star has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue in 2024. He could help the North London club compete across all fronts in the future. Hence, Arteta should consider bringing Luiz on board soon.
