In a recent report, respected journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay £30m for Bournemouth ace Lloyd Kelly. It has been claimed that Spurs would face competition in the form of Liverpool in the race to land the English centre-back this January.
Kelly’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Kelly is having a decent campaign at the Vitality Stadium and deserves credit for putting in a run of impressive displays at the heart of Bournemouth’s backline. The 25-year-old has participated in nine matches for the Cherries this season but has failed to score or create a goal for them in all competitions.
The English defender has been a good performer on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 79.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, Spurs could potentially land Kelly on the cheap when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Make A Move For Kelly?
Kelly can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He is a tough-tackling defender who usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. The English talent is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He mainly operates as a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if needed.
Kelly will bring more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the North London club.
Thus, it makes sense for Spurs to try and make a move for Kelly this winter as he could prove to be a real asset in Postecoglu’s match-day squad. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life in North London.
