In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Santos forward Marcos Leonardo. It has been stated that the Gunners are hoping to land the Brazilian prospect in the future.
Leonardo’s Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football
Leonardo has come through the youth ranks of Santos and has done well to break out as a first-team starter for them recently. The Brazilian whizkid has already featured in 161 senior matches for the Brazilian outfit thus far, scoring 54 goals and securing 11 assists in the process across all competitions.
The talented youngster has proven his worth as a decent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Brasileirao. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after making just 74.3% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2026. Hence, the Gunners will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit the Brazilian prospect this winter or at the end of this campaign.
Arsenal Are Keeping Tabs On Leonardo: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Leonardo can engineer some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few decent chances for others around him in the final third.
The Brazilian wonderkid is a technically gifted footballer who can make a few clever runs with the ball up top. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
Leonardo is already good enough to offer some healthy competition for Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal. At 20, he has the potential to become a generational talent which makes him a great, long-term option for the Gunners to pursue next year.
There is no denying that Leonardo is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should think about stepping up his pursuit to land him when the transfer window reopens at the start of January.
