In a recent report, Defensa Central claimed that Real Madrid have been offered a chance to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. It is understood that Los Blancos have been given an opportunity to land the English midfield ace.
Phillips’ Lackluster Season In The Premier League
Phillips has experienced an underwhelming campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he has struggled to earn a regular starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s first XI. The 27-year-old has just made six appearances for Man City this season but has failed to score or assist a goal for them so far across all fronts.
The English talent has made all of his league appearances off the bench which could be why he is only averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.7 clearances and 0.7 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after completing 90% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, Real Madrid will have to make a good offer if they want to recruit Phillips this winter or at the end of this campaign.
Is Phillips A Good Option For Real Madrid?
Phillips is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. However, the lack of game time and frequent injuries has seen his confidence take a dip over the past couple of seasons.
Still, on his day, Phillips can be a decent performer at the highest level as evident from his time at Leeds United. Hence, he would be a decent option for Los Blancos to consider this January or next summer.
Phillips would add more bite and steel to Real Madrid‘s midfield. He might even help the Madrid giants compete across all fronts in the coming years. At 27, Phillips is about to enter his prime and could prove himself to be a success story at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium if Real Madrid decide to move in for him next year.
