In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Paul Brown revealed that Everton could be forced to cash in on Jarrad Branthwaite in the future. Brown said,
“I think Branthwaite is going from strength to strength. He looks like a player who could be the core of whatever Everton do defensively for many years if they manage to hold onto him. That’s the big question mark, whether they can or not because the state of the club’s finances mean they’re not in a great position to hold on to promising young players frankly. And I think over the next few transfer windows, depending on what happens with the takeover, you might see Everton being forced to sell at least one asset in each window. We’ll see.”
Branthwaite’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
Branthwaite is having a decent campaign at Goodison Park after he put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of Everton’s backline. The 21-year-old has made eight appearances for the Toffees this season on all fronts.
The Carlisle-born talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 81.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Do With Regards To Branthwaite?
Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The English sensation is proficient at playing in both centre-half positions but is yet to win a major trophy during his time at Everton.
At the moment, Branthwaite is one of the most important members of Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s squad. Hence, it makes no sense for the Toffees to cash in on him next year.
The Merseyside club would be better off keeping hold of him for the long run as he could have a great resale value in the future.
