In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Chelsea are set to rival Liverpool for Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez. It has been stated that the Blues are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Argentine talent next year.
Gonzalez’s Impressive Numbers In Serie A This Season
Gonzalez is enjoying a decent campaign at the Italian club as he has put in a run of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 25-year-old deserves a ton of credit for scoring seven goals and picking up a couple of assists in 11 matches for Fiorentina this season on all fronts.
The Argentine sensation has caught the eye in the opponent’s half by averaging 2.6 shots, 0.4 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after making 74.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Gonzalez is under contract at the Florence-based club until the summer of 2028. Hence, Chelsea will have to pay a hefty fee if they want to recruit the Argentine wing wizard next year.
What Will Gonzalez Bring To Chelsea?
Gonzalez is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Gonzalez is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger if needed.
The Argentine sensation can also create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. However, he needs to figure out a way to be a little less selfish in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Gonzalez to bring more firepower to Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s attack. He is good enough to rival Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke for a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
At 25, Gonzalez has got his prime years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Blues to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
