In a recent interview with Highbury Squad, Kevin Campbell urged Arsenal to keep hold of Eddie Nketiah. Campbell said,
“Possibly [Nketiah could be sold].
“Solely because of FFP and how the money is structured.
“Obviously that puts Eddie down the pecking order, it does. But if we’re serious and we’re looking at going for a lot of these trophies, we’re going to need a real deep squad and I mean that.
“So, people might think ‘Eddie has to [go]’. Not necessarily. Emile Smith Rowe might… no, not necessarily.
“We’re going to need the deepest squad we’ve ever had. We want silverware and we’re looking to go deep in a lot of these cup competitions and the league, we’re going to need to be as deep as we can.”
Nketiah’s Unimpressive Campaign At The Emirates Stadium
Nketiah has struggled to be consistent with his offensive contributions at the North London club this season. The 24-year-old has netted two goals and picked up one assist in 11 matches for Arsenal during this campaign across all competitions.
The London-born sensation has caught the eye at times in the final third as he is averaging 2.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Do With Regards To Nketiah?
Nketiah can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some decent openings for his teammates up top. The English talent is usually quite clever with his runs in the final third. However, he has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal.
Nketiah is currently an important member of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s squad. However, his lack of consistency in the Premier League has put his long-term future at the London club in doubt.
Still, the Gunners would be wise to keep hold of him at least until the end of this campaign if they want to compete across all fronts this season.
