In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Arsenal are eyeing a January move for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins. It has been claimed that the Gunners are hoping to secure the services of the English striker.
Watkins’ Impressive Form In Premier League Football
Watkins is enjoying a great campaign at Villa Park as he has managed to bang in some important goals for the Villans in the Premier League. The English talent has found the back of the net seven times and earned four assists in 13 matches for the West Midlands club this season in all competitions.
The Torquay-born talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 3.1 shots, 2.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 77.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Watkins is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Is Watkins The Right Fit For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Watkins can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in on-target and can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The English forward can even engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can time his runs well in behind the opposition backline.
Watkins has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take any time to adjust to life at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta can devise a way to bring him on board next year.
Watkins would add more goals to the North London club’s frontline and could help the Gunners compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. He is good enough to rival Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium. At 27, Watkins is about to enter his prime which makes him a good fit for Arsenal’s needs in the short-term.
