In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Newcastle United are locked in a three-way battle for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele. It has been stated that the Magpies are eyeing a move to bring the French wide player to St. James’ Park but could face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal in pursuit of him.
Dembele’s Mixed Start To This Ligue 1 Campaign
Dembele has experienced an up-and-down spell at the French club so far as he has struggled to be consistent on the right side of their attack. The 26-year-old managed to secure two assists in nine appearances for PSG this season in multiple competitions.
The France international has caught the eye at times in the final third by averaging 1.9 shots, 3.4 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 81.9% of his attempted passes in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Parc des Princes will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to seal a move for him on the cheap next year.
Newcastle United Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For Dembele: Is He Worth The Fight?
Dembele is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He can also use his quickness to get the better of his marker out on the flanks.
The French sensation is a great dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to orchestrate a few meaningful openings for his teammates up top. He mainly operates as a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Dembele to inject more pace and goals into Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at the Tyneside club. Hence, the PSG wide player would be well worth the fight, so the Magpies should focus on getting a deal done for him this January or next summer.
