Olivier Giroud has confirmed he is on the verge of signing a new contract at Arsenal. The 30-year-old has only 18 months left on his contract.
Giroud hasn’t been preferred as the centre forward as Arsene Wenger has been using Alexis Sanchez in this position. The French international had a not so good start to the season as he was often been kept on the bench and had also suffered from a toe injury.
Despite having limited appearances Giroud has been often used as an impact substitute as he chipped in late goals in this season including a vital one against Manchester United.
Giroud scored the winner against Preston in the FA Cup and has now scored four goals in his last four matches.
The 30-year-old said, “We’re on the verge of reaching an agreement for an extension
“It’s also a sign of confidence and I want to continue my adventure here in this Arsenal family, and I feel very good here.
“When I spoke with the manager, he always kept telling me that I’m an important player. I know what I’m capable of and it’s just a case of being patient, working hard in training and waiting for your hour to come.”
