According to a report from Metro, Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko maintains that he made the ‘superior’ choice to join RB Leipzig this summer, even though the Red Devils expressed interest in him.
The 20-year-old featured on United’s list of potential signings, as Erik ten Hag prioritised bringing in a new striker during the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, United did not pursue their interest and chose to acquire Rasmus Hojlund for a £72 million fee from Atalanta. Sesko, on the other hand, finalised his €24 million (£20.6m) transfer to RB Leipzig over the summer, following an agreement initially reached with Red Bull Salzburg the previous year.
Sesko’s Recent Displays For RB Leipzig This Season
Sesko is enjoying a decent spell in the Bundesliga after producing some impressive displays in front of the goal for his side. The 20-year-old has managed to find the back of the net on three occasions in just five appearances, where he mostly came off the bench as an impact substitute.
The Slovenia international has been a menace for the opposition defenders as he is averaging 1.3 shots and 1.0 dribbles per game in the German first division. However, the young sensation needs to take better care of the ball when distributing possession, as he has only completed 69% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Will The Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Reignite Interests In The Youngster Next Summer?
Sesko exhibits clinical finishing skills, demonstrating composure and precision in front of the goal. While primarily being a striker, Sesko remains adaptable and can play various attacking roles effectively which makes him an appealing choice. Furthermore, he has excellent close ball control, quick footwork, and creative dribbling moves, making him a threat in one-on-one situations.
In addition to his goal-scoring abilities in front of the goal, Sesko also possesses the awareness to provide key passes and create scoring opportunities for his teammates. At just 20, the Slovenian forward is already good enough to compete for a regular position at Man United. However, with the acquisition of Rasmus Hojlund, the Red Devils are well stocked in the front. Hence, Erik ten Hag is not likely to move reignite his interest for the youngster.
