Rangers have done a decent job since they earned promotion back to the Premiership. They had to wait for four long years to make the top flight after some testing times in the bottom tiers. Many expected the Gers to challenge for the title after their return to the top tier and it was probably a too much of an ask. However, they are pretty much in control of the second spot and have also found their best possible starting XI. The last Old-Firm Derby was pretty much a well-contested game but Rangers lost the game to Celtic in the end as the quality of Hoops was too much for them.
It is well clear that Rangers are still a long way from becoming a force that could challenge Celtic’s monopoly in Scotland. A few good signings in January and in the following summer transfer window could get them closer to a place from where they can realistically challenge Celtic. The Sunday Post claim that Warburton is keen on signing Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine in the summer on a free transfer to shore up his defence.
Considine’s contract expiring in the summer of 2017 and Rangers could get his signature for absolutely nothing. A defender of Considine’s calibre and moreover, his experience, could prove to be an invaluable addition to the Gers. The 29-year-old has been a one-club man so far in his career. He graduated from the academy of Aberdeen and went on to represent the Dons 342 times till date.
Rangers will highly benefit from bringing in a defender like Considine who boasts so much experience in Scottish football. With his frame of 6’4″, the Scot is a menace in the air and wins almost every aerial tussle. He is not the fastest of defenders but thanks to his experience, his capability to read the game is exceptional. Rangers’ first-choice centre-back duo Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson are both quality defenders but are nowhere close to Considine’s experience. So, he will be a smart addition to the club.
A deal for Philippe Senderos back in the summer proved to be a disastrous one for the Gers. Clint Hill has done pretty well since his move from QPR but he is 38 now and is not a long-term solution. Considine has the tools and would be a very safe option at the back. On a free transfer, he would be a brilliant addition to the Ibrox.
