Aston Villa could hold to the deadlock until the 70th minute and it was pretty impressive on their part. A robust display overall, Bruce’s men never the favourites in this fixture anyway, but they definitely played like one till the end.

Johnstone (7/10)- His selection reflected the amount of Bruce has on him. And he repaid it well. The loanee from Manchester United looked really confident and had a calm presence in the box.
There was a certain command in his movements.
Hutton (6.5/10)- Aston Villa had a pretty decent game until the start of the final quarter when Davies’ goal pretty much broke their spirit.
Hutton had a great game where he looked rock solid in his defence and even moved up occasionally.
Chester (7.5/10)- Was a perfect leader most of the game. He kept the back four intact and had a crucial clearance from Son’s cross-shot. He looked alerted at all times displaying disciplined defending.
Baker (7/10)- Janssen wasn’t sharp at all throughout the game and Baker’s persistent defending made it even more difficult for him.
His continuous battle with the Belgian was interesting and he had a decent performance.
Amavi (6/10)- Son’s tremendous pace on the flanks gave serious problems for him and he had to be on his toes all the times.
