In a recent edition of Go Radio, Andy Walker revealed that Everton wanted to sign Southampton forward Che Adams earlier this year. Walker said,
“Everton must regard themselves as a relegation club because that’s where they have been in and around.
“They wanted Che Adams’ experience to get themselves out of a difficult position. But a move didn’t come off.
“I don’t know what will happen with him in January because he has been on the bench for Southampton. I think he leads the line really well. He has that strength. Physique. He can bring others into play.
“And Scotland have a lot of players who can get forward and make a lot of things happen in that final third.”
Adams’ Recent Form At Southampton
Adams had a tough campaign at Southampton as he failed to help them avoid getting relegated from the Premier League. However, the Scottish talent has made a great start to this season after scoring three goals in five appearances for the Saints across various competitions.
The 27-year-old has seen most of his game time come off the bench but deserves credit for averaging 1.0 shots and 0.5 key passes per game in the EFL Championship. However, he has lacked quality when distributing possession in the final third after completing just 72.9% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go Back For Adams Next Year?
Adams can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a decent finisher in the final third when he is playing well on the pitch.
The Scottish sensation can even engineer a few meaningful openings for others around him in the opponent’s half. He has scored some important goals for Southampton of late. However, Adams has struggled to be a consistent goal-scorer in the Premier League thus far.
Still, there is no denying that the Scottish centre-forward would add more goals to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline. He is good enough to challenge Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park. Thus, Howe should consider going back in for Adams when the transfer window reopens in January.
