Tsimikas’ Important Role At Anfield Last Season
Tsimikas enjoyed a solid campaign at the Merseyside club recently as he managed to play an important role in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. The 27-year-old failed to score but picked up six assists in 28 matches for the Reds last season on all fronts.
The Greek talent made most of his league appearances off the bench and deserves credit for averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.7 clearances and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the left flank after completing 85.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Tsimikas is under contract at the Merseyside club until the summer of 2025. Hence, it makes sense for the Reds to tie him down to a new and improved contract this year so that they keep hold of him for the long run.
Liverpool Are Advancing Their Talks To Extend Tsimkas’ Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Tsimikas is a tough-tackling left-back who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can also deliver some dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty box.
The Greek sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and has proved his worth as an ideal under-study to Andrew Robertson at Liverpool in recent seasons. However, he lacks the physical attributes to be a dominant force in the air.
Therefore, it makes sense for Jurgen Klopp to reward Tsimikas with a new and improved contract. At 27, he is about to enter his prime soon and could be a real asset for the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.
All in all, it seems like Tsimikas’ contract extension would be a good move for both the player and Liverpool as they look to bring some success back to Anfield in the not-too-distant future.
