In a recent interview with Bold, Tottenham Hotspur ace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg revealed that he is ready to fight for his first-team place after deciding to stay with the North London club beyond this summer. Hojbjerg said,
“In the end, the most important thing, and I have made this very clear to the coach and the club, is that I have to show my best side and deserve what I get from playing time.
“Right now I am not among the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to show my best side if the coach points to me.”
Hojbjerg’s Decent Run Of Form In North London
The Danish talent enjoyed a solid season in the Premier League after he put in a series of influential displays at the heart of Tottenham‘s midfield. Hojbjerg participated in 44 matches for his current employers in the previous campaign, scoring five times and picking up seven assists across all fronts.
The 28-year-old anchored the midfield well and deserves credit for averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He distributed possession accurately from midfield after making 88.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Does Hojbjerg Have A Future At Tottenham Hotspur?
Hojbjerg can offer adequate protection for his teammates as he usually times his tackles well to earn possession back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Danish midfield ace can even strike the ball purely from long range and has got the eye to create a few inviting chances for his teammates up top. He can also make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield.
However, Hojbjerg has lost his first-team privileges under Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu’s stewardship. Hence, it would be up to him to earn his manager’s trust if he wants to play Premier League football regularly with Tottenham this season.
At 28, Hojbjerg is in his prime and can play a crucial role for the London club this year. Hence, he might still have a future at Tottenham with his current deal set to expire in 2025.
