In a recent column on Caughtoffside, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that Aston Villa wanted to recruit Manchester United ace Jadon Sancho earlier this summer. It has been revealed that the Villans along with Tottenham Hotspur were showing interest in acquiring the services of the English wide player in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
Sancho’s Struggles At Old Trafford Recently
Sancho had an inconsistent campaign at the Mancunian club last season when he struggled to be productive for them in front of the opposition goal. The England international registered seven goals and three assists in 41 matches for the Red Devils in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The 23-year-old managed to catch the eye at times in the opposition half based on his average of 0.8 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the final third after making 85% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Man United will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Aston Villa to sign him on the cheap if they decide to go back in for him in January.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go Back In For Sancho?
Sancho is a good dribbler with the ball and can make a few positive runs with the ball from the wide areas. He has got the eye to set up a few promising chances for his teammates and can even shoot the ball with power from long range.
The English talent was a consistent performer during his spell at Borussia Dortmund. However, things have not clicked for him at Man United so far. Sancho is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if required.
Therefore, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery would be wise to try his luck by moving in for him this January or at the end of this campaign. At 23, the best is yet to come from the English wing wizard.
Sancho has what it takes to strengthen the quality of the West Midlands club‘s attack. Therefore, the Villans should look to go back in for him next year.
