In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the future of Real Madrid defender David Alaba. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are unwilling to entertain any offers from Saudi Arabia for the Austrian talent this summer.
Alaba’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
Alaba has made a decent start to this campaign as he has already put in a few solid displays at the centre of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. The Austrian sensation has picked up one assist in four appearances for Real Madrid In La Liga.
The 31-year-old has been a rock at the back and deserves credit for averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after making 92.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Ancelotti is under no pressure to cash in on Alaba this summer.
Can Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Afford To Lose Alaba?
Alaba is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The Austrian sensation is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so by his manager. The veteran defender is currently one of the most important and experienced players in Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad.
Thus, Los Blancos simply cannot afford to lose Alaba this summer even if they receive a big offer from Saudi Arabia. At 31, the Wien-born defensive ace has still got plenty of football left in him and could be a real asset for the Madrid giants in the coming seasons.
All in all, Real Madrid should think about retaining Alaba for the duration of his contract as he could help the Madrid outfit compete for more major trophies in the not-too-distant future.
