Newcastle United had a decent transfer window as they managed to make some notable acquisitions this summer. Eddie Howe was able to sign Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento, Yakuba Minteh and Lewis Hall (on loan from Chelsea) earlier this summer (via transfermarkt).
Newcastle United’s Summer Arrivals
Sandro Tonali
Tonali was Newcastle‘s most high-profile acquisition this summer. The Italian talent sealed a €64m move to the Tyneside club from AC Milan. He made a decent start to life at St. James’ Park but has struggled to catch the eye for them over the past couple of weeks.
Still, we can expect Tonali to play a crucial role in Howe’s squad this season.
Harvey Barnes
Barnes sealed a €44m move to Newcastle from Leicester City recently. He has already made a positive impact at the Tyneside club after scoring one goal and securing one assist in four matches for them this season so far.
Howe will hope that Barnes can offer some decent competition for Anthony Gordon for a regular starting spot in his first team this season.
Tino Livramento
The 20-year-old decided to make a switch to Newcastle from Southampton in a deal worth around €37.2m this summer. He would now look to establish himself as a key performer in Howe’s match-day squad during this campaign.
Yakuba Minteh
The Magpies signed Minteh for €8m and decided to loan him out to Feyenoord recently. He will be a player to watch out for in the future.
Lewis Hall
Howe completed the loan acquisition of Hall from Chelsea. He would be responsible for challenging Dan Burn for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park this season.
Newcastle United’s Notable Summer Departures
Allan Saint-Maximin – Al-Ahli for €27.2m
Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest for €17m
Karl Darlow – Leeds United for €400k
Ryan Fraser – Southampton on loan
Jamal Lewis – Watford on loan
Isaac Hayden – Standard Liege on loan
Has Eddie Howe Added Enough Quality To His Newcastle United Squad?
Newcastle struggled to get players in despite the lure of UEFA Champions League football this summer. Still, Howe did well to sign Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento and deserves credit for adding more quality to his squad.
