It is winter break in Scotland which means the only excitement for the fans right now is the January transfer window. Despite being the dominant force in Scottish football throughout the first half of the season, Celtic made an early addition to their team in the form of Ivorian wonder kid Kouassi Eboue from Russian Premier League side Krasnodar. Now, Rangers have come up with a strong reply to that as they have secured the signing of Emerson Hyndman on loan from Premier League side Bournemouth on loan for the rest of the season.
Rangers’ desperation for quality in the middle of the park seemed pretty clearly visible and it was always on the cards that Warburton will use the January transfer window in order to reinforce the area. Hyndman, on loan, could prove to be a brilliant move from the Gers. Already capped twice for the United States, Hyndman is a highly promising player and a short loan spell at Ibrox could be beneficial for his career.
Big things were expected from the young and talented midfield player from across the Atlantic when Bournemouth snapped him up from Fulham in the summer. He joined the Cherries saying no to clubs like AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund which speaks a lot about his potential. However, his first few months at the Vitality Stadium was a little tough as he mainly had to settle for minutes in only League Cup.
Bournemouth are a rising force in the Premier League under one of the best young managers in Europe, Eddie Howe and Hyndman is regarded as a big part of the club’s future. It’s still early days for him at Dean Court and he is still only 20. In the long run, he could be a crucial player for the South Coast side and therefore, he has to live up to expectations while on loan at Rangers.
At Rangers, Hyndman should not find it hard to get playing time. Warburton is a fan of the 4-3-3 formation and Hyndman would easily slot in there. A technically gifted player, Hyndman is more of a playmaker by trade. He is not the biggest, nor the fastest but could prove to be exactly what Rangers needs in Kranjcar’s absence.
Also, the experience he will get while playing in front of a huge Ibrox crowd, would be highly beneficial for him. He will get to know what playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe feels like and will certainly come back to Bournemouth as a much better player.
