In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could recruit Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku on loan during this summer transfer window. It has been revealed that Spurs are eager to seal a loan move for the Belgian striker before the end of this month.
Lukaku’s Encouraging Loan Spell At Inter Last Season
The 30-year-old enjoyed a positive loan spell at Inter Milan in the previous campaign after he put in a string of fruitful performances on the attacking third of the pitch. Lukaku found the back of the net on 14 occasions and picked seven assists in 37 appearances for the Milan club last season across multiple competitions
The Antwerpen-born centre-forward did well to average 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, Lukaku has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opposition half as he completed just 72.5% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Stamford Bridge will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it makes sense for Tottenham to arrange a loan move for Lukaku this month.
Is Lukaku The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Lukaku can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can use his strength to cause some problems for his marker in the final third. The Belgian talent can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing well with confidence on the pitch. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution up top.
Someone with Lukaku’s skillset and experience would no doubt be a decent loan acquisition for Tottenham this summer. He would serve as a good, short-term replacement for Harry Kane who left the North London club earlier this summer.
Lukaku is good enough to lead the line for Spurs regularly in the Premier League this season. He might even help Angelos Postecoglu‘s side to challenge for a top-four spot during this campaign. All in all, Lukaku would be a good fit for Tottenham’s needs at the moment but only if they sign him on loan this month.
