In a recent tweet, journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to land KAA Gent talent Gift Orban this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are trying to bring the Nigerian striker to the English capital before the end of this month.
Orban’s Decent Run Of Form In Belgian Football
The 21-year-old put in a series of impressive displays as the focal point of Gent’s attack last season. Orban scored 20 times and earned a couple of assists in 22 matches for the Belgian club in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Nigerian sensation managed to catch the eye with his performances in the final third based on his average of 3.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Jupiler Pro League. However, he struggled to be accurate when linking up play in the opposition half after making 71.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Gent will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Tottenham to sign him this month.
What Will Orban Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Orban can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
The Nigerian sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his link-up play up top. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
We can expect Orban to bring more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He would also soften the blow received by Spurs after they lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich recently.
At 21, Orban has got the potential to become a future star in English football. However, the jury is still out on whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the North London club can find a way to get him on board this summer.
