The transfer window is finally here. Even though we rarely get to see a January transfer window as busy as a summer transfer window but still, these are the times when the fans are excited. Especially in Scotland where there is a winter break right now, the transfer window anticipated even more.
Celtic fans have already seen their club having started their shopping as Ivorian wonder kid Kouassi Eboue has joined from Krasnodar. However, the rumour mill is hardly silent.
Celtic have been linked with plenty of names in recent weeks. So, how likely are those rumours to transform to reality? Let us discuss.
1> Henri Lansbury- 6/10
As per reports in England, Celtic are hot on the tail of the Nottingham Forest skipper who is also wanted by Aston Villa and Derby County. The 26-year-old is going out of contract in the summer and both Villa and Derby are willing to offer money for him in January whereas Celtic want to settle for a pre-contract now and see him moving to Parkhead for free.
Well, both Villa and Derby could offer the former Arsenal man first-team chances but can Celtic do that? I am not too sure about that. Otherwise, this does not seem totally unlikely a deal. It is not in Forest’s hands anymore. If Lansbury wants to see his contract run out and join Celtic for free in the summer, that is up to him.
2> Jordan Rhodes- 4/10
Scottish international forward Jordan Rhodes is having a tough time at Middlesbrough in the Premier League and could be on his way out after Rudy Gestede joining the Teessiders as per reports. A proven Championship forward, Rhodes’ stock still remain high in the second tier of English football but Celtic are also monitoring the situation as claimed by The Daily Mail.
Problem is, Rhodes will struggle for playing time at Celtic too and even if he does get it, there will be an unnecessary competition for place between him, Griffiths and Dembele. So, this move seems highly unlikely.
3> Lex Immers- 8/10
This one seems very likely. Cardiff City parted ways with the Dutch midfielder recently after just seven months since he signed for the Bluebirds. A proven Eredivisie campaigner with ADO Den Haag and then Feyenoord, Immers is gifted with versatility.
He can play as a number ten, number nine and on either flank. He is also capable of plying trade in a deeper midfield role. Such an amazingly versatile player would be an asset under Rodgers and being a free agent, this move seems very very likely to happen.
