In a recent report, Hurriyet claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have seen their €22m get rejected for Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are determined to land the Danish centre-back during this summer transfer window.
Nelsson’s Impressive Run Of Form In Turkish Football
Nelsson experienced a solid campaign in the Turkish Super Lig as he managed to put in a series of impressive performances for Galatasaray on the defensive end of the field. The 24-year-old scored one goal and grabbed one assist in 35 matches for the Turkish club last season across all fronts.
The Danish sensation was a rock at the back and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per game in the Turkish Super Lig. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 85.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Galatasaray will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it will be difficult for Spurs to recruit him for a reduced fee in this off-season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go Back In For Nelsson?
Nelsson is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball to clear the danger when required and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
Standing at 1.85m, the Danish talent can win his fair share of aerial duels as well. However, he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level and could struggle to adapt to the physicality of English football.
Still, we can expect Nelsson to inject more bite and steel into Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence.
At 24, Nelsson will only get better in the coming years which makes him an ideal choice for Spurs to pursue during this summer transfer window.
Nelsson will no doubt help the North London club challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season. Therefore, Postecoglu should think about going back in with another bid for the Danish talent so that he can lure him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this ongoing transfer period.
