In a recent interview with talkSPORT, pundit Darren Ambrose urged Tottenham Hotspur to land Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer. Ambrose said,
“Someone mentioned it last week, go and sign Ivan Toney.
“I know he can’t play until January, but you’ve got a proven Premier League goalscorer that can come into the team in January. 20-plus goals again.”
Toney’s Impressive Run Of Form In Premier League Football
Toney enjoyed a decent campaign at the English club recently as he produced a run of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 27-year-old banged in 21 goals and grabbed five assists in 35 matches for the Bees last season on all fronts.
The Northampton-born talent led the line well for Brentford based on his average of 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 62% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Toney A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Toney excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He can be a deadly finisher in front of the opponent’s half and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances in the final third.
The English talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his link-up play up top. Standing at 1.85m, he can use his strong frame to hold possession up for his teammates.
We can expect Toney to add more firepower to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu‘s attack. He might even help Spurs to compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
At 27, Toney is about to enter his prime. However, he is suspended from playing football until January 17, 2024. Still, there is no denying the Brentford striker’s quality which makes him a decent option for the North London club this summer.
