In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that West Ham United are still interested in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer. Romano said,
“I think they will try again. But let’s see because they didn’t want to go higher than £40 million for Gallagher, so I’m not sure what’s going to happen.
“The interest is still there and people in the club are still convinced that Gallagher would be a top candidate for the West Ham midfield.”
Gallagher’s Tough Campaign At Chelsea
Gallagher struggled to give a good account of himself with his performances at the centre of the West London club’s midfield in the previous campaign. The 23-year-old found the back of the net on three occasions and picked up one assist in 45 appearances for Chelsea last season in various competitions.
The English playmaker saw most of his game time come as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 84.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Gallagher is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025. Thus, West Ham will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit him soon.
What Will Gallagher Add To West Ham United Boss David Moyes’ Team?
Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and can shoot the ball purely and with venom from long range. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield.
However, the English talent is currently lacking confidence and could benefit from a change of scenery this summer.
Gallagher will be a terrific acquisition for West Ham if they manage to bring him on board this summer. He will add more quality and depth to David Moyes’ squad and would help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, the East London club would be wise to move in for him once again before the end of this transfer window.
