In a recent report, The Athletic claimed that West Ham United remain keen on recruiting Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah this summer. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are eyeing a move to secure the services of the German centre-back soon.
Tah’s Decent Run Of Form In Bundesliga Last Season
Tah enjoyed a good season at the German club after he put in a handful of solid displays at the centre of Leverkusen’s defence. The Hamburg-born talent made 47 appearances for his current club in the previous campaign, scoring one goal in the process across multiple competitions.
The 27-year-old gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field as he averaged 0.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game in Bundesliga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 89.1% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Leverkusen will expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, the Hammers will have to launch a big move if they are serious about signing Tah in this ongoing transfer window.
Is Tah A Good Fit For West Ham United?
Tah can read the danger quickly and usually times his tackles well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The German talent can use his robust 1.95m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland.
At the moment, Tah is playing at a high level which makes him a decent fit for David Moyes’ needs at West Ham this summer. At 27, he is entering his prime and could help the Hammers challenge across all competitions over the next few years.
Tah will enhance the quality of the East London club‘s backline. Thus, he would be an excellent option for West Ham to pursue before the end of this summer transfer window. All in all, Moyes should try everything in his power to get a deal over the line for Tah soon.
