In a recent report, The Guardian mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Bayern Munich ace Mathys Tel this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to land the French youngster in this off-season.
Tel’s Limited Role At The Allianz Arena Last Season
Tel played a sporadic role in Bayern’s squad last season but struggled to be consistent for them in the final third. The 18-year-old banged in six goals in 28 matches for the Bavarian club in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The gifted striker made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.9 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He was even excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 80.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Tel is under contract at the Bavarian club until the summer of 2025. Thus, Spurs would have to make a decent offer if they want to land the French starlet during this summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur Are Showing Interest In Tel: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Tel can find space for himself and usually tests the opposition keeper with his shot attempts. He can create some decent openings for others around him and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
The French talent mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
At 18, Tel has the potential to become a future star in European football. Hence, Spurs would do well to snap him up this summer.
Tel is good enough to serve as a good, long-term successor to Harry Kane at the North London club. However, Angelos Postecoglu has to be patient with his progress if he wants to get the best out of the youngster. He is still quite raw and would need time to settle into life in English football.
Still, there is no denying that Tel is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, Tottenham would be wise to go all out to bring him to North London before the end of this transfer window.
