In a recent report, The Sun stated that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher this summer. It has been revealed that Spurs have identified the English talent as a target for this ongoing transfer window.
Gallagher’s Difficult Season At Stamford Bridge
Gallagher struggled to be consistent with his performances at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield last season. The 23-year-old netted three goals and secured one assist in 45 matches for the Blues in the previous campaign in all competitions.
The English talent saw most of his appearances come as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even been careful when distributing possession from midfield after completing 84.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will expire in the summer of 2025 which would make it difficult for Spurs to land Gallagher this summer.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Make A Move For Gallagher?
Gallagher is an energetic presence in the middle of the park and can strike the ball with power from long range. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third.
The English sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as an attacking midfielder or play as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Gallagher to bring more energy and dynamism to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He will no doubt increase competition for places within the North London club‘s match-day squad.
At 23, Gallagher has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great choice for Spurs to consider in the long run. He knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the North London club. Therefore, Postecoglu would be wise to make a move for Gallagher before the end of this transfer window.
