The Transfer Market comes with its share of shocks and surprises, considering the fact that the managers scourge deep and try to pull something spectacular out of their hat. In one of the very latest reports, a rumour has developed in particular, of Manchester United’s legendary defender being linked with a move back to the Old Trafford.
Patrice Evra was (err, or is?!) a household name in the golden period of the Red Devils under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson. Five Premier League titles, FIFA Club World Cup and a Champions League winner’s medal are testamentary evidence of the successes he familiarised himself to at Manchester United and had developed a very close and healthy association with the Manchester club.
At Juventus, where he has been since 2014, his current season has given the stature of nothing more than being a second feeder to the requirements of the club. He has fallen behind in the pecking order of Massimiliano Allegri and has registered only six Serie A appearances for the Old Lady so far this season and needless to say, he hasn’t had the impact he wanted to make.
On the other shore, José Mourinho has seemed to have finally found the right blend to get a series of win under his belt but for the remainder of the race and to ensure a challenge for the title, he does need someone with wealth of experience to account for, with the mentality of being ‘serial winners’ which are so very essential at the business end of the season.
Instability and inconsistency at the left-back slot imply that Mourinho needs to infuse a dramatic example to shake his side out of apathy and instil positive vibes. Does Patrice Evra fit the bill? Absolutely!
Despite being at the wrong end of the thirties, the Frenchman is probably looking for one last decent season before he calls it a day. At the onset, the transfer rumour might sound rubbish and delusional, but some deep thoughts regarding the value of such a transfer should change one’s decision. Mourinho needs leaders on the pitch and Evra is one for sure.
An emotional comeback to his former stomping ground looks to be on the cards. The veteran defender’s day at Juventus is severely numbered and the left-back role is still a headache for Mourinho’s side. Frankly speaking, Manchester United can do things a lot worse than signing Evra but the urgent need of a strong character, passion and positivity which Evra can offer are second to none.
Hey Manchester United fans, are you pining to make banners to welcome him back home?
