In a recent report, AS stated that Barcelona are eyeing a loan move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix this summer. It has been claimed that the Madrid club are open to letting the Portuguese attacker leave to join the Catalan outfit on loan in this off-season.
Felix’s Lackluster Loan Spell In West London Last Season
Felix had an underwhelming loan spell at Chelsea in the previous campaign when he struggled to be consistent for them in the Premier League. The talented striker banged in four goals in 20 matches for the Blues last season on all fronts.
The Portugal international caught the eye at times in the final third as he averaged 2.9 shots and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 80.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Atletico Madrid will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it makes sense for Barca to focus on getting a loan deal done for Felix ahead of the new campaign.
Will Felix Be A Decent Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Felix can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. The Portuguese talent can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing well on the pitch. Felix is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
Felix has what it takes to enhance the quality of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s frontline. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp next season. At 23, the Portuguese forward will only get better with each year as long as he continues to work hard in the training field. He already knows La Liga well by now and won’t take any time to settle into life at Barcelona.
Felix could even help the Catalan club compete for some major honours over the next 12 months. Hence, he would be a good choice for Barca to consider on loan during this summer transfer period.
