In a recent report, Sport Mediaset stated that Aston Villa are set to open talks to recruit Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto. It has been claimed that the Villans are eyeing a move to sign the Italian winger during this summer transfer window.
Gnonto’s Decent Run Of Form At Elland Road Last Season
Gnonto experienced an impressive campaign at the West Yorkshire club after he put in a few fruitful displays for them on the left wing. However, his contributions were not enough to keep the Whites in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old did well to score four times and earn four assists in 28 matches for his current club thus far in multiple competitions. Gnonto deserves a lot of credit averaging 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball well in the opposition half as he made 77% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Gnonto’s current contract at Elland Road will expire in the summer of 2027. There, the Villans will have to make a sizable offer if they want to convince Leeds to part ways with their prized asset in this off-season.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Bring Gnonto On Board?
Gnonto is a decent dribbler with the ball and can use his quickness to leave his marker to bite the dust out in the wide areas. He can create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can shoot the ball well from long range. Gnonto mainly operates as a left-winger but can also play as a right-sided wide player or act as an attacking midfielder if required.
The Italian speedster had done well to add some goals and assists to his game last season. He has already got some valuable Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take any time to settle into life at Villa Park if Unai Emery can sign him this summer.
Gnonto would no doubt improve the West Midlands club‘s attack. He will also help the Villans push for a top-half finish in the English top flight next season. Hence, it makes sense for Aston Villa to bring the Italian on board before the end of this transfer window.
