In a recent report, Hurriyet mentioned that Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson is determined to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer. It is understood that the Danish centre-back is eager to seal a move to the North London club in this off-season.
Nelsson’s Impressive Form In The Turkish Super Lig
Nelsson enjoyed a solid campaign in Turkish football recently after he put in a series of impressive performances at the heart of Galatasaray’s defence. The 24-year-old registered one goal and one assist in 35 appearances for the Turkish outfit last season in all competitions.
The Denmark international was a rock at the back and did well to average 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He was even accurate when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass success rate of 85.7% in the top tier of Turkish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Galatasaray is set to expire in 2026. However, Nelsson is looking for a move elsewhere which could open the door for Spurs to land him in this off-season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Nelsson?
Nelsson loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.85m, Nelsson can win his fair share of aerial duels as well.
We can expect the Danish talent to bring more bite and steel to Tottenham Hotspur head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He might even help Spurs challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season.
At 24, Nelsson has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the North London club to consider during this summer transfer period. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a defender of Nelsson’s skillset. Thus, Spurs should consider moving in for him ahead of the new campaign.
