In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, transfer insider Dean Jones claimed that Aston Villa are showing interest in Barcelona winger Ferran Torres this summer. Jones said,
“There’s definite interest there, and they feel he could be a really good player for their system. Getting the two Torres players could be a real good make-up for Aston Villa going forward next season.”
Torres’ Decent Run Of Form At The Nou Camp
Torres was a useful member of Barcelona boss Xavi’s squad last season when he managed to put in a run of impressive displays in the final third. The 23-year-old scored seven goals and grabbed three assists in 45 matches for the Catalan club in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The Spanish wide player made most of his appearances off the bench but did well to average 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 81.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap Torres Up This Summer?
Torres has got the vision to unlock the opponent’s defence with some killer passes in the final third. He can even make a few clever runs with the ball out on the flanks.
The Spanish sensation can be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He is primarily a left-sided player but can also function on the right wing or play as a centre-forward up top if told to do so.
Torres will enhance the quality of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s first XI and could help the Villans challenge for a European spot in the Premier League next season.
The Spaniard has what it takes to secure a regular starting spot at Villa Park. At 23, Torres has plenty of time to turn his career around by establishing himself as a regular starter at the highest level. Hence, the West Midlands club could be an ideal destination for him this summer. All in all, it is only logical for Emery to snap Torres up during this summer transfer window.
