In a recent tweet, journalist Stefan Bienkowski claimed that Arsenal are in talks to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong. It has been revealed that the Gunners are in discussions to bring the Dutch talent back to English football this summer.
Frimpong’s Impressive Form In German Football
Frimpong had a brilliant campaign at the German club recently after he put in several influential displays on the right side of their defence. The Dutch right-back found the back of the net nine times and secured 11 assists in 48 matches for Bayer Leverkusen last season in all competitions.
The 22-year-old gave a good account of himself at both ends of the field as he averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He even distributed the ball accurately from the right flank after making 81.2% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the German club will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, the Gunners will do well to get him on board for a cut-price fee ahead of the new campaign.
What Will Frimpong Bring To Arsenal?
Frimpong is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can also engineer some promising chances for his teammates from the right flank. The Dutch full-back is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
We can expect Frimpong to bring more quality to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s defence. He is good enough to challenge for a regular spot in the Gunners‘ starting XI next season.
At 22, Frimpong has the potential to become a future star in European football. Therefore, the North London club should focus on getting a deal done for him before the end of this transfer window. However, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Arteta can find a way to lure him to the English capital ahead of the new campaign.
