In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs have taken the first step to land the English centre-back during this summer transfer window.
Adarabioyo’s Impressive Campaign At Craven Cottage
Adarabioyo had a solid campaign at Fulham recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of dominant performances for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 25-year-old scored one goal in 29 matches for the Cottagers in the previous campaign across all competitions
The English sensation was a rock at the back based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 5.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back as evidenced by his pass success rate of 82.4% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Spurs could potentially land him on the cheap in this off-season.
Is Adarabioyo The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Adarabioyo is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Adarabioyo is primarily a central defender but can also function as a right-back if asked to do so by his manager. However, he still has a lot to learn before he can prove himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
We can expect the Manchester-born talent to mature as a footballer in the coming seasons. Hence, he would be a good fit for Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu this summer as long as he can get him for a fair price.
At 25, Adarabioyo has his best years ahead of him and would be a decent signing for Spurs to pursue ahead of the new campaign. He has what it takes to increase competition for places within Postecoglu’s squad and could help the North London club challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
