In a recent report, The Express revealed that West Ham United are in the race for Leicester City star Harvey Barnes this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers are hoping to move in for the English winger during this summer transfer period.
Barnes’ Tough Season In English Football Recently
Barnes endured a difficult campaign at the King Power Stadium as he struggled to help the Foxes stay up in the Premier League. The English wide player scored 13 times and picked up three assists in 40 appearances for Leicester City last season in various competitions.
The 25-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 73.5% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the East Midlands club will run out in 2025. However, Leicester’s recent relegation could open the door for the Hammers to land him this summer.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Get Barnes On Board This Summer?
Barnes is a decent dribbler with the ball in the final third and can play a few decisive passes to set up some decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range but needs to find a way to retain the ball well on the attacking end of the pitch.
The English sensation mainly operates as a left-winger but can function as an attacking midfielder if asked to do so. However, he has to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Barnes to give David Moyes‘ side more options in attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season.
At 25, Barnes’ peak years are ahead of him which makes him an ideal choice for West Ham to consider during this summer transfer window. He might even help the Hammers challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Hence, Moyes should try everything in his power to get Barnes on board before the start of the new campaign.
