According to a report from Mirror, Liverpool are gearing up to make an initial offer for the talented youngster Romeo Lavia. Southampton has placed a valuation of £50 million on Lavia, and the Reds face competition from Chelsea for the former Manchester City talent.
When Lavia moved from Manchester City to Southampton last summer, City included a 20% sell-on clause in the deal. Additionally, City has a buy-back clause that becomes active in 2024. However, other clubs seem eager to proceed with a transfer now, aiming to eliminate the influence of the buy-back clause.
Lavia’s Impressive Performances In Premier League Football Last Season
Lavia has had a commendable season at Southampton, consistently delivering strong performances in the midfield. However, despite his efforts, his team was unable to maintain their Premier League status.
The Belgian talent made 35 appearances for Southampton last season, contributing with one goal and one assist in all competitions. Playing a pivotal role in the centre of the park, the 19-year-old showcased his abilities by averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 0.6 key passes, and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Moreover, he displayed excellent passing accuracy, completing 86.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Jurgen Klopp Bring Lavia To Liverpool?
Lavia demonstrates his ability to disrupt opponents with his strong and well-timed tackles in the midfield. He is adept at clearing danger and possesses the skill to make crucial interceptions. Additionally, the Belgian midfield maestro showcases his proficiency in passing and can embark on dynamic runs from midfield.
Bringing Lavia to Anfield would undoubtedly inject renewed energy and depth into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. The 19-year-old has the potential to contribute significantly to Liverpool‘s pursuit of major honours in the coming decade. However, he would not be an immediate fix to the underlying midfield problems which have forced the Merseyside club to revamp that area.
Although with a promising future ahead of him, Lavia represents a bright prospect, making it crucial for Klopp to explore all possibilities to secure his services at Merseyside this summer.
