In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti mentioned that Newcastle United are set to rival Liverpool for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram this summer. It has been stated that the Magpies are showing interest in recruiting the French talent in this ongoing transfer window.
Thuram’s Excellent Form In French Football Last Season
Thuram caught the eye with his performances at the centre of Nice’s midfield and deserves credit for performing at a high level for them in the previous Ligue 1 campaign. The French midfield ace featured in 48 matches for the French outfit last season, netting a couple of goals and earning eight assists in various competitions.
The 22-year-old was a positive influence at both ends of the field and did well to average 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even careful when distributing possession from midfield after making 86.9% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with Nice is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Newcastle will have to make a sizable offer if they want to convince the French club to part ways with their prized asset later this year.
Is Thuram A Good Signing For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Thuram is a tough-tackling midfielder who can make a few timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and has also got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
The Frenchman is full of energy and running in midfield and would be a good fit for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s brand of football.
Thuram has got the skillset to make an immediate impact at St. James’ Park if he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
At 22, Thuram has the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday. Hence, the French midfield enforcer would be an excellent signing for the Magpies during this summer transfer window as he would help the Tyneside club compete across all fronts in the upcoming campaign.
