In a recent interview with Last Word on Spurs, journalist Sami Mokbel claimed that Leicester City star Harvey Barnes is more likely to join West Ham United this summer. Mokbel said,
“You mention Harvey Barnes there, and there is an interest in Harvey Barnes. But equally Harvey Barnes has a number of options and while he would be attracted to Tottenham he may look at that and think ‘wait a minute how often am I going to play here?” You have Son there you have Kulusevski there and you have Richarlison there. He may look at that situation and think he may be better off elsewhere. I think he would look at a club like West Ham or Aston Villa maybe where he knows he would play regularly where at Tottenham there may not be that guarantee.”
Barnes’ Disappointing Season At The King Power Stadium
Barnes failed to help the Foxes get out of regelation trouble last season. However, he did well to score 13 goals and secure three assists in 40 matches for the East Midlands club in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The 25-year-old caught the eye at times on the attacking end of the pitch and deserves some credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 73.5% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Will Barnes Be A Good Signing For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Barnes is a decent dribbler with the ball and can use his pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out on the flanks. He can create the odd chance for his teammates and is a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal.
However, the English winger needs to work on improving his link-up play in the final third. Still, there is no doubt that Barnes would add a lot of firepower to West Ham head coach David Moyes‘ frontline. At 25, he will enter his prime soon and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the London Stadium.
The Leicester star has what it takes to help the Hammers compete for a major trophy over the next few seasons.
