Watford had a pretty decent start to life under their new manager Walter Mazzarri who was appointed the boss back in the summer but things have not gone their way of late. A key reason behind that is the injury crisis they have suffered. Mazzarri is a quality manager and he has shown that in some games like Watford’s amazing 3-1 win against Manchester United.
Watford have several of their key players out with injuries right now and we can expect them to be active in the market for additions to the team. Watford, being owned by the Pozzo family from Italy and having a renowned Italian gaffer in Walter Mazzarri, should have good contacts in Italy and that is evident from a recent report from Football Italia which suggests that Keisuke Honda is wanted by the Hornets.
Honda is a pretty well-known player to anyone who has followed European football in the last decade. Once he was the poster boy of Asian football in Europe. Even though he is 30 now, he could still be a welcome addition at Vicarage Road. Now at Milan, he is clearly not wanted anymore by Vincenzo Montella. Having lost his place in the team, the 30-year-old badly needs a move and Watford could be his ideal destination.
The former Asian Golden Ball Award winner is blessed with an incredible versatility. He is predominantly a central midfielder but can also play as a number ten or even as a right winger. His game is all about creativity. On top of that, he is a seasoned Serie A campaigner and should not find it hard to fit into Mazzarri’s system. The 30-year-old comes with a plethora of experience which will be a fruitful addition to the Hornets.
The Japanese international is also known for his accuracy from free-kicks, dribbling ability, and delivery as a dead ball specialist. His quality and experience will be a huge addition to the club. Watford have got plenty of steel and industry in the middle of the park and a creative player like Honda can add a lot to their midfield which badly needs fresh faces.
Watford have brought in some big players like Valon Behrami, Mario Suarez, Juan Camilo Zuniga in recent times and now bringing a player like Honda will be a big statement from the Hornets. Well, Premier League is at a whole another level now. Players like Rondon, Shaqiri, Bojan are moving to mid-table clubs and Honda moving to Watford won’t be a surprise at all.
