In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barcelona have identified Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been stated that the Catalan club are hoping to move in for the Croatia international in this off-season.
Brozovic’s Decent Numbers In Italian Football Last Season
Brozovic enjoyed a solid campaign at San Siro after he put in a series of impressive performances for Inter at the centre of the park. The Croat talent managed to score three goals and earn six assists in 40 matches for the Italian club last season on all fronts.
The 30-year-old has been a reliable performer in both halves as he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 89.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at San Siro will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to get Brozovic on board in this off-season.
Is Brozovic A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Brozovic is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a good passer of the ball.
The Croatia international can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if asked to do so.
Brozovic will bring more quality and depth to Barcelona boss Xavi’s midfield department. He would even serve as an ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets at the Catalan club in the long run.
At 30, Brozovic has still got a few years left in him to play at a high level. Hence, he would be a good, short-term option for Barca to consider during this summer transfer period. However, only time will tell whether Brozovic can maintain his good form at the Nou Camp as he has not got any previous experience of playing in La Liga.
