Vicario’s Impressive Form In Serie A This Season
Vicario enjoyed a solid campaign at the Italian club as he produced a series of impressive displays in goal for them over the past ten months. The 26-year-old conceded 41 goals and grabbed seven clean sheets in 32 matches for Empoli last season in all competitions.
The Italian sensation did well to average 1.4 clearances and 5.9 long balls per game in the Serie A. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after making 68.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Vicario is enjoying his football in Italy at the moment and could prove to be a decent target for Spurs to pursue this summer.
Is Vicario A Decent Signing For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglou?
Vicario can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing regularly on the pitch. He has got fast reflexes and can make a few timely saves for his team. The Italian custodian is a good hander of the ball but needs to work on improving his ball distribution from the back. Standing at 1.94m, he can be a towering presence inside his penalty box.
We can expect Vicario to enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglou’s backline as he would be a perfect successor to Hugo Lloris at the North London club in the long run.
At 26, Vicario has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good signing for Spurs to pull off this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of the Premier League if Tottenham manage to get him on board in this off-season.
Still, there is no denying that Vicario would be a decent option for the London giants as he has got the skillset to succeed playing in Postecoglu’s style of play and could help Spurs compete for a top-four spot in the English top-flight next season.
