In a recent print edition, AS stated that Liverpool are locked in a three-way battle for Celta de Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga. It has been revealed that the Reds are facing competition in the form of Chelsea and Newcastle United in the race to land the Spanish talent this summer.
Veiga’s Decent Numbers In Spanish Football Last Season
Veiga enjoyed an impressive season in La Liga recently as he produced a string of fruitful performances for Celta Vigo in the final third. The 21-year-old appeared in 40 matches for his current employers in the previous campaign, scoring 11 goals and earning four assists across all fronts.
The Spanish sensation was a consistent performer in the opponent’s half and deserves credit for averaging 1.7 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 76.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Reds to snap him up in this off-season.
Is Veiga A Decent Fit For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Veiga excels at creating space for himself and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
We can expect Veiga to add more energy and dynamism to Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp’s midfield and increase competition for places within his match-day squad.
At 21, Veiga has the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday. Therefore, it makes sense for the Reds to try everything they can to get him on board this summer as he is good enough to be a success story at Anfield in the long run.
However, Klopp has to be patient with his progress if he wants to unlock the best out of him at Liverpool in the future. All in all, Veiga would be a great fit for the Merseyside club as he is close to becoming a generational talent, so the Reds should focus on snapping him up this summer.
