In a recent report, AS offered an update on the future of Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo. It has been claimed that the Spanish talent has no desire to part ways with Los Blancos this summer.
Vallejo’s Lack Of Game Time At The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
Vallejo served as a sporadic presence in Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad last season as he struggled to earn regular playing opportunities in the Spanish capital. The 26-year-old made just four appearances for the Madrid club during this campaign across all fronts.
The Zaragoza-born talent has caught the eye at times with his performances on the defensive end of the field. However, he has often found himself behind Eder Militao, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger in Ancelotti’s pecking order.
His current contract with Los Blancos will expire in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Real Madrid are under no pressure to cash in on him this year.
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Vallejo?
Vallejo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his powerful 1.84m frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. Vallejo is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so.
The Spanish defensive ace is proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, he is simply not good enough to feature for Los Blancos in La Liga week in week out.
At the moment, Vallejo remains an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. However, the lack of game time has hampered his development at the Madrid club over the past couple of years.
Hence, Ancelotti would be better off cashing in on him during this summer transfer period and using the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a younger defender capable of challenging for a starting spot at the Bernabeu in the coming seasons.
