In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Newcastle United are planning to move in for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer. It has been revealed that the Magpies are weighing up a move to land the Italy international in the summer transfer window.
Tonali’s Decent Run Of Form In Serie A
Tonali has enjoyed another solid campaign at San Siro after putting in several dominant performances at the heart of AC Milan’s midfield. The 23-year-old has scored two goals and secured ten assists in 48 matches for the Milan giants this season across various competitions.
The Italian sensation has been a positive influence in both halves as he is averaging 1.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 0.9 shots and 1.8 key passes per game in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 81% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at AC Milan will run out in 2027. Hence, Newcastle will find it difficult to sign Tonali on the cheap during this summer transfer period.
Should Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe Snap Tonali Up This Summer?
Tonali is a good tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can also set up some decent plays for his teammates going forward. The Italian talent can strike the ball purely and with power from long range. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect someone with Tonali’s skillset to enhance the quality of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s midfield department. The Italian could help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
Tonali has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park. He could even go on to form a solid midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes at the Tyneside club in the coming seasons. Therefore, Howe should consider going all out to snap Tonali up in the upcoming transfer window.
