One of the sagas of the summer which has since got buried in sand has been the fall out between Jurgen Klopp and Mamadou Sakho at Liverpool. Unknown circumstances saw the manager oust the centre-back from the pre-season training camp and he has since failed to get a look-in. The severity of the bust-up is writ large on the events that have followed with Klopp losing his composure on more than one occasions when pestered with questions regarding the French international.
He has opted to use the likes of Lucas and Klavan when Matip has been injured and these are clear signs that his days at Liverpool are coming to an end. It will be a sad end to proceedings with the powerhouse defender promising so much before falling out of favour.
With the signs looking bleak that he will waste his season without any on-field action, let us take a look at 3 clubs where he can move to get back on the scene once again!
WEST BROM
The Baggies have been somewhat of a surprise this season. Tony Pulis’ teams have traditionally been defence based and have focused on not conceding a goal before having any thoughts of creating one for themselves! But West Brom have attained a better balance and are managing to engage the crowd as well as churn out results.
They are comfortably placed in the 8th position and it is no wonder that Pulis wants to capitalise on this situation. Sakho has been on their wishlist before and the direction they are headed in, he would be a good addition to the scheme of things.
STOKE CITY
The Potters have somewhat recovered after a horrific start to the season and although the last few weeks haven’t been the best, they have a platform to finish a lot higher up the table than what was anticipated after a month into the season. But the backline has been an area of concern for them this season.
Ryan Shawcross hasn’t looked the same and is struggling to get back to his peak form while Bruno Martins Indi hasn’t been a runaway success by any means. Sakho’s physicality and approach would suit the Potters and with their troubles encompassing the left-back area as well, he will be an ideal addition with pace, power and experience all on offer in abundance.
LEICESTER CITY
The reigning champions have looked anything but champions this season. There are a lot of factors as to why they haven’t been able to repeat their displays even a bit. But we won’t be getting into all of them now. One of the reasons has been their failure to get sufficient cover in centre-back.
The ageing duo of Huth and Morgan managed the whole of last season but with the increased workload of Europe this year, they have not looked anywhere as assuring or effective. An addition like Sakho will go a long way into fortifying their defence again and with Champions League football on offer, it is a something which might have crossed the player’s mind.
