In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Manchester City have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund full-back Raphaël Guerreiro who is set to become a free agent at the end of this month. It has been stated that Man City want to bring the Portuguese talent to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Guerreiro’s Excellent Form In German Football This Season
Guerreiro has enjoyed another impressive campaign at Signal Iduna Park as he has produced a string of solid performances on the left side of Dormtund’s backline. The Portuguese sensation has scored six goals and grabbed 14 assists in 36 matches for the German club this season across multiple competitions.
The 29-year-old has been a consistent performer at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.2 shots, 2.1 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even taken care of the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.1% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
Guerreiro’s current with Dortmund will expire soon which could open the door for Man City to secure his services on a free transfer this summer.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Snap Guerreiro Up?
Guerreiro is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side when defending inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Portuguese full-back is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can whip in some dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty box. He can also shoot the ball with power from long range.
Hence, Guerreiro would be a brilliant acquisition for Man City in this off-season. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Etihad Stadium next season and would be a great replacement for Joao Cancelo, who is facing an uncertain future at the Mancunian club.
At 29, Guerreiro is playing some of the best football of his career. Hence, Pep Guardiola would be wise to try and snap him up when he becomes a free agent at the end of this month as the left-back has what it takes to help Man City win even more trophies over the next few years.
